Note Using a variable speed switch on the Quiet Cool Fans has not traditionally been recommended. The switch has some minor quirks that make it not for everyone. Each switch has to be individually set to a minimum speed setting below which the motor could be damaged. Also, at some speed settings, a harmonic hum is developed that makes it undesirable. In light of these minor problems, some installers have been installing these whole house speed controls and apparently are happy with their performance.
